IOS Drag Felt HYDRA

This is a revolutionary spinning drag felt equipped with eight grease holes.

When used in combination with the separately sold IOS Drag System, you can experience the ultimate “wet feeling” drag performance.


- Feature 1
Holds three times more drag grease than conventional designs.
By supplying grease from the holes as needed, it brings out the full viscosity of the grease for a smoother, wet drag feel.

- Feature 2
The ultra-thick high-density drag disc holds 1.5 times more than conventional products.
It prevents sticking during long-term storage and increases the adjustment range of the drag knob.
It maintains stable disc surface pressure from extremely low loads to near full lock, ensuring consistent drag values over a long period.

SHIMANO, DAIWA, and ABU models in the 1000 - 2500 class (including C3000)

* To maximize drag performance, we recommend using IOS “sirokuma” or “dekakuma” grease in combination with the IOS Drag System (sold separately).


* Caution
For single washer drag systems only.
Not compatible with multi-washer systems such as 3000-class and above due to thickness.


| Grease Application & Overhaul Procedure

1. Remove the retaining spring and retaining plate from the spool.
Then remove the existing drag felt and clean the inside of the spool and related parts.




2. Whether new or used, IOS HYDRA must always be cleaned and dried before use.
Apply a generous amount of grease, enough to fill the holes.

* If used without washing, the felt adhesive may interfere with drag stability.




3. Properly set the drag retainer plate and reinstall the retaining spring.




4. If grease oozes out from the center, gently remove it with a cotton swab.
* A small amount of excess grease is not a problem.
However, make sure it does not get on the main shaft, etc.




5. Install the spool assembly into the reel to complete the setup.




| Drag Setting Examples

HYDRA installation is intended for single washer systems of 3000 class and below.


1. Ester line #0.3 or below + sirokuma grease + standard setting = Normal drag feel, suitable for trout area fishing, ajing, etc.

2. Ester line #3 or above + dekakuma grease + loose setting = Focused on resistance and elasticity, suitable for area fishing, ajing, etc.

3. 3 lb or below + sirokuma grease + standard setting = Performance-focused for light lines, suitable for bass, etc.

4. 3 lb or above + dekakuma grease + standard setting = Emphasis on resilience for light lines, suitable for smallmouth bass near stream covers, etc.

5. PE line + dekakuma grease + strong setting = Power finesse around covers, smallmouth bass, rockfish, seabass, lake & river cherry salmon, etc.

6. PE line + sirokuma grease + loose setting = For standard eging, etc.

7. PE line + dekakuma grease + loose setting = For deep eging, etc.
