The 2-speed gear, which can be switched instantly during a fight, delivers both fast line pickup and powerful cranking force - an indispensable function.
The Infinity Drive-equipped double drag structure achieves even higher drag performance than the previous model while reducing handle rotation resistance under high drag by more than 30%.
The low gear ratio has also been lowered further to provide the torque needed to powerfully lift large fish.
It also comes equipped with a light line cam that enables smooth drag changes through lever operation.

A Full Lineup of 6 Models - Choose the Right One for the Right Situation.





The lineup now includes 6 models with 3 newly added sizes.
Example applications: the 12II/16II are ideal for live bait and drop fishing from rocks or boats, as well as live bait fishing for yellowfin tuna up to 50 kg.
The 20II is suited for live bait fishing for grouper and large amberjack, the 25II covers live bait and float fishing for yellowfin tuna over 100 kg and bluefin tuna, and the 40II & 50II can handle bluefin tuna and marlin over 200 kg with ease.
The optimal model can be selected by considering target species, water depth, line class, and other conditions.

Precision Cold Forging “HAGANE Gear.”



Unlike hot forging, SHIMANO's precision cold forging technology - “HAGANE Gear” - achieves superior precision and strength by applying pressure to metal at room temperature.
“HAGANE Gear” is formed by compressing a lump of metal with approximately 200 tons of force.
No cutting is performed on the tooth surface at all; instead, pressing creates high-precision gears with micron-level accuracy in a single operation - a technology unrivaled in the world.
The quality is truly worthy of the name “forged metal.”

Forging a Lump of Metal Into a Precision Gear



- High Density: When the cross-section of a “HAGANE Gear” produced by precision cold forging is compared to a cast (die-cast) gear, the difference is clear.
In casting, where material is melted and poured into a mold, air bubbles and foreign matter tend to mix in, as shown by the black dots in the image.
Precision cold forging, on the other hand, has a high crystal density with no voids.
This results in a tougher, more durable gear.



- High Hardness: In precision cold forging, where no cutting (machining) is performed on the gear tooth surface, the metal flow (flow of the metal structure) is not severed.
A gear whose metal structure flows along its shape is highly resistant to impact and extremely difficult to break.



- High Lubricity: Gears made by cutting have fine scratches and protrusions on the surface, causing localized fatigue.
However, “HAGANE Gear” has almost no irregularities on the tooth surface, so even after repeated reeling over many fishing trips, noise is unlikely to occur and smooth retrieve is maintained.

Dramatically Reduced Rotational Resistance.
Infinity Drive Challenges the Impossible Through a New Approach.



A new mechanism developed by SHIMANO to achieve more powerful yet lighter winding.
Of the two grease bearings supporting the pinion gear, the spool-side bearing with higher rotational resistance is no longer used for support.
Instead, the structure has been redesigned so that the pinion gear is supported internally by the spool shaft.
In addition, support distance, wall thickness, and other factors have been thoroughly optimized to also achieve high support rigidity.
Rotational resistance in the gear section has been greatly reduced without sacrificing gear strength.

A water barrier and special water-repellent grease work together to firmly guard against water intrusion into the spool-side bearing of the drive gear shaft.

Bearings That Resist Rust



SHIMANO's “S A-RB” greatly improves corrosion resistance on the metal surface by applying a special anti-rust treatment to the bearings.

The Role of Bearings in a Reel



“Bearings” are components that allow the shaft inside a machine to rotate smoothly, and they are essential for improving reel performance.
They also play an important role in casting ease and sensitivity during retrieve.
However, when saltwater, rain, sand, or salt enters the bearings, rust develops and the smoothness of the retrieve is lost.
To prevent this, reel bearings are often made of stainless steel or treated with special coatings.

SHIMANO's “S A-RB” creates a physical shield (guard) on the side of the bearing to help block rust, and also applies a special treatment (anti-rust treatment) to resist corrosion.
