[TRY-ANGLE] Tough Light Spool & Mag Brake System Set

A Must-Have for Stream Bait Finesse Anglers! Tough & Lightweight Spools for the BC Series

The “finesse spool” is a must-have custom part for stream bait fishing, and now genuine ISUZU spools are available for both the BC42 and BC52 Series, as BC42/52 users have long awaited.

Triangular holes reduce the weight by more than 60% compared with the stock spool.

Careful design and repeated testing on many fish species have resulted in a spool that is both light and highly rigid.

It is also the first genuine part to use a magnetic brake system.
As a non-contact system, it is far less affected by humidity and weather than a centrifugal brake, so even minnows in the 2g range can be cast consistently and comfortably.

Additional magnets (sold separately) can be installed to make the brake even stronger.


Cast Farther and More Precisely With the Mid-Size BC Series

A medium-shallow spool that fits the ISUZU mid-size “BC62/73 Series” and “BC72 Series” reels and also works with finesse lines.

Triangular holes make the spool light and highly rigid.
Thanks to the lighter spool, you can cast with less force than before, which improves accuracy.
You can approach the spot from farther away.

This product also uses a stainless steel spool shaft to handle fights with big fish.
Prototyping and testing showed that the heavier shaft has very little effect on casting distance in actual fishing with a mid-size reel.
Compared with the BC42/52 Series versions, which use an aluminum shaft, a tougher build was chosen for this product.

A magnetic brake system is used for braking.
As a non-contact system, it is far less affected by humidity and weather than a centrifugal brake, for stable and comfortable casting.

Additional magnets (sold separately) can be installed to make the brake even stronger.


The Definitive Finesse Custom Part Beyond the Limits of a Direct-Drive Reel

A finesse spool that changes what a direct-drive reel can do, making it possible to cast light lures in the 2g range.

Triangular holes make the spool light and highly rigid. You can cast with less force than before, so you can expect to approach from farther away and cast more accurately.

Parts to change the standard centrifugal brake to a magnetic brake are included. The brake works consistently and is less affected by the weather. A custom part that lets you use the DD31 Series in many situations, including native trout fishing.


| Notes on Use

* The spool is shipped dry. Apply oil and grease before use.
* If monofilament line (nylon or fluorocarbon) is stored on the spool while wet, it may shrink as it dries and damage the spool. After fishing, remove monofilament line from the spool before storage.


| How to Install (BC42 Series (Old), BC52 Series)


1. Loosen the 3 screws and remove the handle side unit.


2. Fit the spacer onto the bearing case of the handle side unit all the way to the base, with the side with the larger inner diameter facing in.


This side faces in.


3. Fit the O-ring.


4. Press the bracket in until it is flush with the face of the bearing case. There is some resistance because the O-ring is held in between.


Place the bracket on a hard flat surface such as a table and press the handle side unit straight down onto it.


You can also press it in with your fingers. Press straight down, and be careful not to hurt your fingertips.


Pressing at an angle may cause damage or malfunction.


5. Screw the mag support assembly into the thread of the bracket.


Installation is complete.


| How to Adjust the Mag Brake


Install the Tough Light Spool.


A gap of about 0.5mm from the spool surface is the guide position for the MAX (strongest) mag brake.


Screwing the mag support assembly in further from the guide position makes the mag brake weaker.


Install the handle side unit and tighten the screws. Make a test cast and readjust the mag brake if needed.


| How to Install (BC42 Series (New), BC62/73 Series, BC72 Series, DD31 Series)



* Check the compatibility for the BC62/73 Series.

* Only models with a 38mm diameter spool are compatible.
* How to tell: the 38mm diameter spool has a stepped edge.




Check the contents.



The spool is shipped dry.
Apply grease and oil before assembly.

Apply a thin layer to the parts shown above.




Loosen the 3 screws and remove the handle side unit and the spool.




Fit the bracket inside the brake drum.




* The O-ring creates some resistance.
Use a flat surface to press the bracket in straight.




* Do not press it in at an angle.




Screw the mag support into the thread of the bracket.




Install the Tough Light Spool.




A gap of about 0.5mm is the guide position for the MAX (strongest) mag brake.
Make sure the surfaces do not touch.

Adjust the gap between the spool surface and the mag support surface.




Screwing the mag support in further from the guide position makes the mag brake weaker.




Press the push button and turn the spool by hand to check the rotation.




Insert the spool into the body.
Then install the handle side unit.




Done.
Make a test cast and adjust the brake.

The photos show the BC620SSS. The installation steps for the BC42 Series (New), BC72 Series and DD31 Series are the same.


| CHECK

- If the mag support touches the spool surface, the spool will not rotate properly.
- Press the push button and turn the Tough Light Spool by hand. You can check how strongly the mag brake works by how quickly the spool stops.


| If the Mag Support and Bracket Are Stuck Together

If the mag support is screwed in all the way, it may lock onto the bracket.
If the mag support and bracket turn together and you cannot set the position, loosen them as follows.


Hold the curved groove on the octagonal outer edge of the bracket with the edge of a coin or similar to stop it from turning.
You can then turn only the mag support.

If they cannot be loosened this way, remove the bracket and mag support together, loosen them, and install them again.
The spacer and O-ring may come out stuck inside the bracket hole. Be sure to remove them first, then install the parts in the correct order.


| Removing & Adding Magnets

Install the magnets on the front side with N and S poles alternating.
The N pole is marked in red.

The magnets are held by a steel mag stopper on the back of the mag support.
To remove a magnet, pull it off with a flat surface such as a screwdriver.
When all the magnets are removed, the mag stopper comes off.

For an even stronger mag brake, purchase the additional magnets (sold separately).

* Keeping them close to electronic medical devices such as pacemakers may affect their operation.
* Keeping them close to precision devices such as computers, smartphones and watches may cause malfunctions.
* Keeping them close to credit cards, cash cards and similar cards may make the cards unusable.
