Product Introduction

Various sizes of neodymium magnets used in Avail's MicrocastBrake (magnetic brake) are sold individually.

You can adjust the braking force by changing the thickness or adding the number of magnets.
(Please be careful not to make it too thick, as it may cause performance degradation or damage due to contact.)
Please also use it as a spare in case of loss.

Neodymium magnets are rare earth magnets with the best magnetic properties as practical magnets, creating a strong magnetic field.
They have fewer cracks and chips and are also excellent in mechanical strength.
They have high magnetic properties and strong magnetism even in small sizes.
(The above is from the explanation of the magnet manufacturer)

Some of them have one side of the surface painted red to indicate the direction of the magnetic poles.
The red surface is the N pole.
The paint can be removed by rubbing.

How to use

Explain the purpose of each size

φ4x1
Auxiliary magnet, set of 8

φ4x2
Use it as a supplement instead of φ4x3.
The distance between the spool and the magnet will increase, so the effect per piece will weaken.

φ4x3
AMB1518, AMB2518, AMB1520PE, CR2/CL2, 18BTM, CRNC17K,
16SCP, MT16K, CNQ14K, ALD15K, SHSC-05A
If the brake can be added, please add the necessary number when the braking force is not enough.

φ4x3.5
AMB1540,AMB1520PE
Please use it when using Microcast Brake AMB1540 for Microcast Spool AMB1520 etc.
Also, please use it when φ4x4 is a little too effective.

φ4x4
AMB1520, AMB1520PE

φ4x5
MB-SXHS16

*Please refer to the following explanation for the above 5.

How to use it for ABU Ambassadeur UltraMAG
(The basic parts configuration is the same as FORELL, S2, etc.)

The genuine product has an φ5x1.5 magnet attached.
(It is probably the same neodymium magnet)
You can adjust the braking force by turning the adjustment dial from 1 to 15.

The parts inside the reel work as shown in the picture.
The lower part is "MAG CAM," and the upper part is "MAGNET HOLDER."
They are equipped with magnets and magnet plates to form the brake system.

This is the state of the adjustment dial scale 1.

This is the state of the adjustment dial scale 15.
In this picture, it looks like the magnet holder on the top is rotating, but the mag cam on the bottom is moving to rotate inside the reel.

However, in practice, you must set it to around 15 adjustment positions to prevent backlash.
There is almost no adjustment range, and sometimes the braking force may need to be increased.

Therefore, you can increase the magnetic force by making the magnet thicker and narrowing the distance between the magnet surface and the spool to widen the adjustment range.

This time, we have UltraMAG1601, so we tried to check it with that.
*Please note that there may be some errors due to variations in the manufacture of reels and spools.

1. When using the genuine spool

Use φ5x2
The contact between the magnet and the spool barely occurs, but depending on the individual, there is a possibility of contact around 15.
The braking force will increase by several steps of the scale, but it will still be adjusted around the larger numbers.
If you want to make it stronger or lower the adjustment range to the lower part of the scale, please use the one with a thickness of 3 mm.

Use φ5x3
It will contact on a scale of 12 and above. You will use it in the range of about 1-11.
The braking force will increase considerably, and the center of the adjustment range will also drop considerably.

The picture shows the relationship between the mag cam and the magnet holder at around 11.
The lower part of the mag cam becomes steeper, and the moving distance of the magnet per scale becomes larger.
At this point, you may have to adjust it in the lower part where the slope is steep.

2. When using the Microcast Spool

Use φ5x2
Due to the difference in dimensions between the genuine spool, the magnet, and the spool, contacted around scale 14.

Use φ5x3
This one contacts a scale of 9.
Adjust in the range of 1-8.

The picture shows the relationship between the mag cam and the magnet holder at around 8.
It will be in the center of the scale from 1 to 15.
As you weaken it a little, it will soon become a steep part so that you can apply a large amount of strength and weakness in a narrow range.

How to use it for ABU Ambassadeur MAG

It has almost the same parts configuration as UltraMAG.
(However, the parts themselves seem to be different, and the part numbers are different)

The biggest difference between UltraMAG and MAG is that the brake works very well in the genuine state.
Therefore, only some people want to replace the magnets.
We checked if it would contact or not.
*We are using 1601MAG

Use φ5x2
Even at the maximum value of the scale 10, there was no contact.
At scale 10, even if you rotate the handle and rotate the spool by inertia, it will stop in about 1 or 2 rotations.
At scale 0, the spool keeps spinning vigorously, just like a genuine magnet.

Use φ5x3
It contacts at a scale of 3.
At scale 0, the brake is not as effective as above, so you can get enough adjustment range.
However, the operating range of the adjustment dial becomes narrower, so it will be harder to fine-tune.
3 mm thick magnets are not practical for MAG.

How to replace the magnets

We will briefly explain how to replace the magnets with genuine ones.
Please try either of the following two main ways. Please ensure the four magnets' surfaces alternate between the N and S poles.
The magnets are attached to the magnet plate on the back of the magnet holder by magnetic force.

1. How to disassemble the reel a little

You can see the springs that hold the magnet holder, but remove them and take out the magnet holder.
The springs are held by a part called "BALL BEARING PLUG" (a small black disc).
If you remove it, you can remove the spring, magnet holder, mag cam, etc.
Before removing it, turn the adjustment dial to 0 (or 1) to stretch the spring.
Also, check which direction the magnet holder is facing.
(There are two ways to fit it, so remember whether it is up or down) Do not remove the mag cam at the bottom.
If you remove it or float and rotate it, the scale position of the adjustment dial will change.
In this case, you will also have to remove the palming cup.

After removing the magnet holder, replace the magnets with iron or other magnets.

Assemble it oppositely to when you removed it.
Check the movable range of the adjustment dial, and you're done.

2. How to replace the magnets one by one

Since the magnets are only attached to the magnet plate on the back, removing and replacing them one by one is possible.
To remove it, use a flat iron surface, such as the tip of a minus driver, to attract it.
It may be difficult to do it with adjacent magnets, as the magnetic force works between them, but it is easy if you do it calmly and carefully.

If you remove all four magnets, the magnet plate on the back will fall off, and you will have to disassemble it, so please be careful.
In that case, please refer to the method "1" above.
